Snegurochka - Russia's Snow Maiden





Snegurochka is the famous snow maiden who helps Father Frost (Ded Moroz) deliver the presents every New Years in Russia. While this snow maiden is a phenomenon in Russia, especially with children, most people outside of Russia have never heard of this famous Russian fairy-tale character.

Her story began in pagan times, where she symbolized the shift from winter to spring. In the 19th century, her story was revised and romanticized in a fairy-tale written by Aleksandr Ostrovsky...

Snegurochka is the immortal daughter of Frost and Spring. Although she can live forever, she is not able to do something she would dearly like... to experience love. In order to experience real love, she has to sacrifice her mortality. And so at the first sign of spring, she melts away...
