About Pimsleur

Pimsleur is an audio language learning product developed by Dr Paul Pimsleur, a linguistics expert who conducted research into the psychology of language learning. The Pimsleur products have been developed based upon Dr Pimsleur's research, with the learning technique aimed at giving language learners the ability to learn languages in the shortest time possible.

The Pimsleur method provides lessons in a 30-minute format, where the listener interacts with an expert teacher and a native speaker in the audio lesson. The listener will learn vocabulary, native pronunciation, and conversation formats in a number of core areas of the language. The aim is for students to be successfully conversing about everyday situations with native speakers of the language in just 30 days.

	Russian Comprehensive I Comprehensive Russian I includes 30 lessons of essential grammar and vocabulary -- 16 hours of real-life spoken practice sessions -- plus an introduction to reading. Upon completion of this Level I program, you will have functional spoken proficiency with the most-frequently-used vocabulary and grammatical structures.
	Russian Comprehensive II Comprehensive Russian II includes 30 additional lessons (16 hrs.), plus Readings, which build upon the language skills acquired in Level I. Increased spoken and reading language ability. Level II will double your vocabulary and grammatical structures while increasing your spoken proficiency exponentially. (Note: In order for the Pimsleur Method to work correctly, you must first complete the Level I language program before proceeding to the Level II language program. Upon completion of this course you will want to continue your lessons with level III.)
	Russian Comprehensive III Comprehensive Russian III includes 30 additional lessons (16 hrs.), plus Readings, which build upon the language skills acquired in Levels I and II. Increased spoken and reading language ability. Level III will increase your vocabulary and grammatical structures and triple your spoken proficiency. (Note: In order for the Pimsleur Method to work correctly, you must first complete the Level I + II language programs before proceeding to the Level III language program.)
	Russian Conversational Conversational Russian includes the first 16 lessons from the Pimsleur Comprehensive Level I program. This Conversational program contains 8 hours of interactive audio-only instruction, effective language learning with real-life spoken practice sessions.
	Pimsleur Russian Basic Pimsleur Russian Basic includes the first 10 half hour lessons on 4 cds from the Pimsleur Comprehensive Level I. You'll be thrilled to discover you can hold a real conversation in Russian when you have finished these ten, 30-minute lessons!

Our Review of Pimsleur Russian

We found the Pimsleur format to be very effective. The lessons go into a lot of detail on important aspects of the language, including correct pronunciation, word stress and typical sentence structures. The lesson contains a lot of repetition, although not in a boring "rote-learning" style, and by the end of the 30 minutes, learners should be very comfortable with that topic.

The lesson format may not be to everyone's liking as there is a lot of emphasis on correct pronunciation. However, the format will be very attractive to those of you who like to have a clear focus on each syllable of words. We certainly found it effective for learning in a way that will lock the vocabulary into your memory.

** Pimsleur now offer all their courses on either CD or MP3 download. You can also download the courses in sections, for example lessons 1-5, 5-10 and so on. This makes it much cheaper to start out and get used to the Pimsleur method before committing to a more comprehensive course.
