Celebrate Christmas Russian Style!

Hi, I hope you are well and enjoying a nice start to the festive season for 2010!

In Russia, the temperatures are dropping, and people all over are preparing for one of the biggest parties of the year. The festive season in Russia stretches on for almost 3 weeks. While Orthodox Christmas is not until January 7th, Russian people are well aware of the 25th of December, and it marks a sort of un-official start of preparations for the biggest celebration of all - New Years!

Russian New Years is the main celebration, and people everywhere do it in style. There is a superstition that the way you celebrate the New Year is the way that the year will unfold for you... So huge banquets and lavish celebrations are the order of the day. Not long after the New Year party has died down, and it is straight into Orthodox Christmas, and for many Russians, the party kicks on for 12 days with the traditional celebrations known as Svyatki. Wow, what a time of year!!

One of the most exciting parts of the festive celebration, especially for children, is the appearance of the Russian snow maiden - Snegurochka. While she is almost unheard of outside of Russia, this fairy-tale character is an absolute phenomonen in Russia.

Our New Russian Blog!

We are gearing up for a big year in 2011, with lots of new content and website features, plus some great new products in the pipeline!

To kick start the year, we have just launched our new blog service run by feedburner. This free service automatically updates you whenever new content appears on our site. The update comes in the form of an email, with a brief summary of the new content and links to view that content in full detail. Those of you who have been subscribing to us for some time will know that I'm not always the best at sending out these emails on time (!!) so this feedburner feed is a great way for you to keep up with everything on a regular basis.

To sign up for these free updates direct to your email inbox, simply click here and enter your email address. Feedburner will then send you a confirmation email, with a link to confirm your subscription to this service.

Thank You!

Finally, I would like to say a big thank you to all of you who have emailed us with feedback or questions throughout the year. It is always nice to know that our site is helping you and it's also great to receive your requests and suggestions for improvements you'd like us to make. I hope we can continue to be a great resource for everything on Russian language and dating!

On behalf of everyone at Russian-Language-for-Lovers.com, have a wonderful Christmas and New Year!!

Best wishes,

Steve.
